You may have seen several rankings for the top 10 blogs and bloggers from India, but most of these are either based on Alexa, Google Toolbar Page Rank or Popularity. The first can be manipulated; the second is dead and the third highly subjective.
There is one parameter which encompasses it all. The popularity of any blog and Google’s estimation of its worth – all this, in the end, finally translates to web traffic. So we decided to rank the 10 Indian blogs based on their estimated web traffic.
There are several online tools that give you estimates of web traffic for a website. You can use Alexa, Google, Compete, Quantcast, Google Keyword Planner or SimilarWeb.
Alexa is unreliable, and can at most be considered as indicative. The reason is simple. It records a visit only if a user comes to your website with the Alexa browser toolbar installed, or if the web page has embedded the Alexa tracking code. Now, who uses the Alexa browser toolbar really? Only bloggers and webmasters. So a blogging tips site is bound to have a higher Alexa rank, since it is often visited by bloggers. To have a better Alexa, bloggers also often embed the Alexa widget too, so that every visit gets counted.
Among the best alternatives, we found SimilarWeb.com to be giving close estimations to web traffic. Although the actual may vary by 10-20%, we have to realize that the margin of error, in any case would apply to all websites equitably.
“Our data comes from 4 main sources:
1) A panel of over 200 million monitored devices, currently the largest panel in the industry.
2) Local internet service providers (ISPs) located in many different countries.
3) Our web crawlers that scan every public website to create a highly accurate map of the digital world.
4) Hundreds of thousands of direct measurement sources from websites and apps that are connected with us directly.”
And so we decided to rank the Indian blogs using SimilarWeb.com ranking, with Alexa and MOZ Rank as additional parameters, along with their social presence, size of the website, age of domain and other important parameters.
Again we have included only Indian bloggers who are staying in India, and not bloggers of Indian origin who may have settled abroad.

Indian bloggers earnings
A small hint about the earnings of these Indian bloggers! While it is difficult to estimate the earnings of these blogs, they could well be in the tune of USD 50-70K pm at the higher spectrum. Earnings depend on the kind of traffic each blog has. Organic traffic pays great. If you have a predominantly US traffic it is even better.
