Screaming Frog SEO Spider: An Ultimate Tool to Check On-Page SEO

Sharing is caring!

You must be agree with my point that SEO plays a very big role in any blog's success. Getting loyal readers takes a lot of time but by doing proper SEO of your blog, an individual articles you can drive tons of free visitors on your blog.

Two SEO terms are most commonly used in SEO industry.

  1. On-Page SEO and
  2. Off-Page SEO

For your blog's success both are equally important. On-page SEO will strengthen your article's quality in terms of SEO while Off-Page SEO will help you to get more exposure.

In this article we are going to talk about On-Page SEO only.

Google is continuously launching various algorithm changes and bloggers like us are getting hit by those SEO changes.

Few months back Blogging Cage got hit by Penguin 2.0 update and it made a huge negative impact on my blog as my traffic was dropped up to 70%.

After such a big hit I started finding solutions and soon many things started revealing in front of my eyes.

I found that I made few silly mistakes in my blogging career which were the main reason behind this negative impact.

Today I am going to share on free tool with you which will help you to find on-page SEO elements on your blog and you can tweak them to make your blog more SEO friendly.

This tool's name is Screaming Frog SEO Spider Tool

What does this tool do?

The Screaming Frog SEO Spider is a small desktop program you can install on your PC or Mac which will help you to find your websites’ links, images, CSS, script and apps from an SEO perspective.

It will fetch all on-page elements for SEO, presents them in tabs by type and allows you to filter for common SEO issues, or slice and dice the data how you see fit by exporting into Excel. You can view, analyse and filter the crawl data as it’s gathered and updated continuously in the program’s user interface.

The Screaming Frog SEO Spider allows you to quickly analyse, audit and review a site from a onsite SEO perspective. It’s particularly good for analyzing medium to large sites where manually checking every page would be extremely labor intensive (or impossible!) and where you can easily miss a redirect, meta refresh or duplicate page issue.

How can this tool help you?

For checking your website, simply enter your website address in this tool and click on Start button.

It will check all factors on your site and after some time a full report for analysis will be ready for you.

1. It can help you to find duplicate content on your blog

Google consider duplicate content as a very negative factor because they don't want to provide multiple information to one user from your blog. So you can easily remove duplicate content from your blog by using this tool's features.

Click on Page Titles > In filters select Duplicate

Analyze those pages and try to correct them by finding solutions.

In the same way check Missing, Over 65 Characters, Below 30 Characters, Same as H1 and Multiple titles on your blog.

2. Check Meta-Description on your blog

Some webmasters are saying, Google is not giving importance to meta-description. Whatever they are saying don't listen to them because still you can see the importance of meta-description very clearly.

See below

I searched for Best SEO Tools and result is in front of you.

This simply means that Google is still giving preference to meta-description.

Here is screenshot of tool.

Check your blog for Missing, Duplicate, Over 156 Characters, Below 70 Characters and Multiple meta-description tags.

If there are too many such pages on your blog then correct them as soon as possible to avoid any mishap in future.

3. Check Meta-Keywords on your blog

Apply same procedure with Meta-Keywords and try to find missing things.

So by performing all these steps you can improve on-page SEO on your blog.

Note: You can import all results for future reference also.

Final Words.

This free tool can help you to improve your blog's SEO in big way and after learning it completely you can find some clients and do such work for them.

Use it wisely and correct all the missing things on your blog.

This sounds like an interesting and useful tool for niche bloggers and affiliate marketers looking to check and enhance their on-page SEO… the ideal alternative to premium programs out there, is it?

Do they also have a paid version or upgrade option?

At present I am using free tool only because this can gives us result of 500 pages only.

My site don’t have total 500 pages so till the time free version is working fine for me. You can upgrade to $99 per month version too. 🙂

  6. Hi Kulwant,

Never heard of Screaming Frog SEO spider, but the way you have described it and the video too, does make a lot of sense. I think even if you can just check up the things you have mentioned, as sometimes we might tend to duplicate or write the same things again on our blogs, espeically if we have many posts, this would surely be of help.

But does this tool also guide you as to how you can use the long tail keywords, or suggest a few more to you or some other additional benefits, besides just checking the performance part of it? If so, then it surely is something most bloggers should go in for.

Thanks for sharing this useful tool with us. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    • Harleena, this is one the best free tool which I love the most.

  14. great tool to check on page errors. will definitely try it at once. right now i am using some free plugins to check these kind of mistakes. thanks for sharing.

  15. Hi!! I my opinion it is ideal to use one On-page SEO tool rather using 2 or three. Yoast is ideal for wordpress blogs but for platforms like blogger its difficult to tackle SEO. I would definitely give it a try.

    • Himanshu, this is a stand alone tool, not a plugin. Simply install this tool on your PC and check your blog with this. This will give you complete report about your blog you can improve many small things.

      • Sorry about that but I said Yoast is Good SEO plugin for wordpress but for platforms like tublr and blogger users are mostly helpless so Screaming Frog SEO Spider would be boon for them.

  16. I like to read your blog and really appreciate your work .you share very useful tools to work ‘on page’.great tool to check on page errors. right now i am using some free plugins to check out these kind of mistakes but no doubt to now i use it.

  17. Thanks for the guide Kulwant! I’ve been dabbling in on page SOE using Screaming Frog so this article was great to make sure I’m using it to its full potential. I’m guessing I have some duplicate titles out there that I’ll need to clean up. Thanks!

  18. Interesting stuff, but honestly, I don’t trust any off-page SEO technique or link building tricks anymore. The latest updates from Google’s search algorithm has already killed the automated commenting and spamming tricks, and I am really glad about this because valuable content might be the king. The on-page optimization is an other thing, and that’s why I’ve found your post absolutely helpful and inspirational. I haven’t heard about this software before, but after reading your review I feel totally assured by its usefulness (the search for duplicates function is such a cool stuff!) thanks for the inspiration, I’m sure I’m going to give it a try!

  19. Screaming frog is a great tool and works really well. The fact its free to start with is a great plus!
