Google Authorship was launched at the end of 2011, which allows content writers to “claim” their content with Google with the use of Google+ profiles.
Many of the internet marketers are saying that this step was taken by Google to get more users on Google plus as compared to Facebook, because ever content writer will have to use Google Plug profile to get his/her picture in Google search results.
But one truth is also there, that you will get more visibility more credibility, higher click-through rate and many other awesome benefits after getting this authorship.
And these days this have become on of the must to do activity to win more Google trust.
Here is the example:
One friend of mine was very confused and asked me, “How your picture is coming when I am searching ‘Blogging Cage' on Google?”
Rather than teaching him alone, I decided to write this article so that you can also take benefit of this.
Here is the step by step process to get Google authorship.
First Step: Make your Google Plus Profile
For getting your picture displayed in search results, the very first thing you will have to do is get you Google Plus profile.
If you don’t already have a Google Account, then you can signup below to complete your registration.
And if you already have an Account with Google, then open following link and make your profile.
Note: Your your original picture and face must be clearly visible in the picture. If face is not visible then chance are very less that you will get Google authorship approval.
So after setting your full profile and filling all the data now it's the time to add other details.
Second Step: Add your website's link in contributor setting
Signup for Google authorship here – https://plus.google.com/authorship
And now open your Google Plus profile using https://plus.google.com
#1. Hover your mouse on Home (left side) and click on profile.
#2. Click on About
#3. There you will see setting for Contributor to
#4. Click on Edit
#5. Fill all the data like your other profiles here.
#6. Add the links of your blogs and where you contributed.
Third Step: Grab your profile url and add in your blog.
Once you are done with all the necessary settings, now it's the time to add this profile link on our blog so that we can tell Google about the authorship of our blog.
Your profile link will look like – https://plus.google.com/118292256017338398834
Now most of the themes are giving this option to add your Google plus profile link in user setting.
So open Users > Your Profile
In my case it is looking like this
Note: You can use WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin if this setting is not there in your users setting.
Once you are done with this, now understand the following two this.
You can use this if you are contributing guest posts on other blogs. This will tell Google, that I am just the author of this article.
example:<a href=”[profile_url]?rel=author” target=”_blank”>+Kulwant Nagi</a> Replace [profile_url] with the your Google+ profile URL, like this: <a href=”https://plus.google.com/118292256017338398834? rel=author” target=”_blank”>+Kulwant Nagi</a>
If you are adding link like this in your author bio then you will have to use “+” sign before your name.
Here is the example:
+Kulwant Nagi is the owner of this blog and belongs from Fatehabad, Haryana, India. He is having knowledge about HTML, PHP and CSS.
rel=me will be used when you are the actual owner of blog.
Fourth Step: Confirm authorship with Rich Snippet Tool
Check link of any of your article and it must show like this.
If you are able to see your picture then your Google authorship has been approved.
And if not then check all the steps again and do it properly.
