Blogging has many ups and downs!
One day we are too much excited to write on our blog, while on next day we are not too much interested.
In one month we are making huge money, while next month we cannot predict anything.
When I started blogging, I also wanted to become one blogging guru and to teach people how to blog. I was not aware about my surrounding and the worst things was; I was not aware about my audience.
As all newbies, I wanted to grow my blog at much higher speed than others and I wanted more audience.
First 3 months in blogging were just like a child. A child who is just learning to walk. I was not aware about
What are backlinks?
Why people submit so great content as guest blogger on other blogs?
Why people write so big comments?
Why there are many giveaways on other blogs? and many other questions.
Soon I found answers of all my questions as I grew my circle and started connecting with other bloggers on Facebook.
Here I am going to discuss some silly mistakes which I made in my blogging career.
#1. I used Fiverr blindly
When I saw Fiverr and it's services first time, my mouth was wide open.
The word came at that instant was wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Are really people offering such awesome services in just $5?
So here begun my story.
I read on one blog that edu and gov links are very important for any blog and we should have such backlinks. Where other blog was saying you should build high PR backlinks for your blog.
I was so excited that I ordered one gig which was offering 8000 PR2+ backlinks (later that gig was deleted) and other which was offering around 1000+ edu and gov backlinks.
They offered their services in 2-3 days.
and whoaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!
I was having edu and gov as well as PR 2+ backlinks.
This thing made me so crazy that I ordered few other gigs too. I was happy because the number of backlinks were increasing (I was completely unaware about the bad effects of them).
Here is one screenshot of the gig I ordered on 9th Feb, 2012.
and few others which I ordered on time to time.
This was the BIGGEST mistake I made for Blogging Cage.
In last Penguin 2.0 update my blog has been hit badly and I lost around 60% of my traffic.
So I was analyzing my backlinks and what I saw was a SHOCKING thing for me.
Many of the links were on spammy sites and I found atleast 100 backlinks from porn sites.
Google caught me here.
They might have sent my blog in spammy list and I lost my traffic. Even my DA and PA are good but still I am not getting as much traffic from search engines.
see the screenshot
I have started recovery process and let's see when I will recover my blog from this Penguin 2.0 hit.
#2. I considered Flipping and child's business
When I saw people making huge money on Flippa, I decide that I should also give it a try.
I discussed with my partner (He is also a newbie) and asked, “Should we start flipping business?”
His reply was YES.
So we started looking for some good looking domains and started our first Android blog (theDroidClub.com) with 100% intention to flip it.
I invested around $800 on domains and started looking for buyers.
But after 2-3 months I realized that it's not that much easy as we were assuming.
I was unable to sell sites which are in red boxes.
So lost another $29×5 ($29 is the fee per listing) = $145 here.
Soon I found the trick behind the successful listings.
What is the trick?
Trick is very simply.
Just make a group of around 5-10 people who have their account on Flippa.
Every person can bid till $200 on Flippa without any restriction.
Ask every member to keep doing $5+ bidding and in this way you will have around 40 bidding on your listing, and genuine buyer will be in trap to make his genuine bid.
Soon there will be some genuine bid and you will ask your friend circle to outbid them till the reserve price is met.
And finally you will sell your blog at very big price.
Note: Such people never reveal that how much cheating they did to sell their blog. They will show you their SOLD listing only.
So this was the second mistake I made to under-estimate this business.
#3. I neglected other social media sites
In my last article I told you how I learnt few things after quitting Facebook.
Even my 70 to 80% business is running from Facebook like hiring writers, selling few services (WordPress, Genesis), buying links etc. etc. but still I am thinking that I am missing big source of conversation from other sites.
After joining some other sites like so.cl, Google Plus I found that they are having big potential as compared to Facebook, and people on these social media sites have more professionalism as compared to Facebook.
I would highly suggest you to not use Fiverr like I used, and never get too much excited by seeing cheap services because at the end they are going to hurt you.
Getting into Flipping business is a GAME, and you will learn it with experience only. Don't try to enter without consulting with some experienced people and learn to prepare good sale letter for your listing.
Keep trying new things and keep tracking results (like traffic, conversion etc.) with them.
